Want to broaden your boating knowledge and be able to skipper a small commercial vessel?

NMIT can offer you the flexibility to study around your existing career and keep a balanced lifestyle.
This programme contributes to graduates obtaining their Maritime New Zealand (MNZ) Skipper Restricted Limits (SRL) certificate.
With an SRL, you can perform skipper functions and duties on passenger and non-passenger vessels less than 12 metres in length overall, carrying up to 19 passengers within restricted limits (which includes both enclosed and inshore limits) and on fishing vessels less than 12 metres in length overall, in enclosed and inshore fishing limits.
Once you obtain your SRL certificate, you can progress to larger vessels.

- Restricted Vessel Operations
- Sea Survival for Inshore Vessels* (medical req)
- Fire Extinguisher Training and Fire Prevention* (medical req)
- Electronic Aids & Navigation Systems
- Maritime Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Certificate (MRROC)
- STCW Elementary First Aid
- Engines, Equipment, and Systems on board Vessels
