NMIT launches new purpose-built powerboat for maritime training
NMIT’s Maritime programme is heading into 2026 with a new custom-built 6.3-metre powerboat from Richmond-based DNA Alloy Boats.

NMIT joined the community at the Nelson Marina Safety Expo, sharing our vessels - including our newly built boat Kina - and maritime expertise to help promote safe boating across the region.
Held at the Nelson Marina, the Safety Expo brought together local organisations, safety professionals, and passionate boaties to promote safe practices on the water as the summer season begins.
NMIT staff and students took part by showcasing our training vessels, including Kina, our newly built boat. Visitors were able to come aboard, explore the boats, and learn more about what we do to prepare learners for careers on the water.
The day was filled with demonstrations, displays, and opportunities for the community to connect, learn, and get boat-ready for the season ahead.
