Russell and Phyllis Fairhall Scholarship Trust
The trustees of the above trust have again decided to make three awards available to students studying in 2027 and beyond in courses related to animal health, agriculture, horticulture, viticulture, rural trades, transport, and aviation. These scholarships are to assist local Marlborough boys and girls who might not otherwise be able to afford an education after secondary school.
The award will be $7,500.00 each, paid out over three years ($1,500.00 for the first year and $3,000.00 each subsequent year), subject to annual submission of details of satisfactory academic achievement and future study intentions.
Candidates must be New Zealand citizens who are bona fide residents of Marlborough, but attendance at a secondary school beyond Marlborough shall not necessarily disqualify a candidate if the Trustees consider that the candidate is, in other respects, a bona fide Marlborough resident.
Preference will be given to those who might otherwise not be able to afford education after secondary school. Scholarships are open to any intending or registered full-time student at any tertiary institution in New Zealand, or to other post-secondary school industry-based courses related to the rural sector. There is no specified age limit. A Scholarship may be held in conjunction with other scholarships.
Please see the Terms and Conditions [PDF 52 KB] regarding the application requirements.
Applications, containing all the required information, should be submitted to Gascoigne Wicks, Solicitors, P O Box 2, Blenheim, Attention Keely King, by 4 December 2026 or emailed to kking@gwlaw.co.nz.
New Zealand Aviation Federation LAME Exam Scholarship(external link)
New Zealand has a critical shortage of Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineers.
For many, the cost of the exams is a genuine barrier to entry. Our inaugural scholarship is just one solution to help grow the future aviation workforce.
The NZAF brings together all sectors of General Aviation, working to support the ongoing development, sustainability, and capability of the GA industry.
This initiative builds on our existing scholarship offering for students undertaking the Certificate in Aeronautical Engineering (Level 4) at NMIT.
What the LAME scholarship covers
Successful candidates will receive progressive reimbursement for each of the basic AME examinations completed. Candidates will have two years from the date of award to complete and claim the cost of the 12 required exams.
Who can apply?
-
Anyone engaged in an AME pathway (employee, student or apprentice)
-
Independently funding their own examination costs (or intending to)
-
Not enrolled in an industry-sponsored cadetship programme (i.e., AirNZ)
-
Not currently in receipt of another NZAF scholarship through NMIT
-
Can provide a letter of support or other form of industry endorsement
