This industry-recognised programme focuses on gaining the introductory skills and experience needed to work in the horticulture industry with an emphasis on safe work practices.
Students will learn practical tasks to gain an entry-level role in the horticulture industry and skills and knowledge to contribute safely and effectively in the workplace.

Our partnersInvest Training Solutions will work with you to develop a training plan that will work for you and your team. They will arrange the programme applications with NMIT, training resources and arrange supportive workplace study sessions as needed.
Over 12 weeks learners will work through the course modules to complete their qualification. They will be provided resources to take them through their learning via NMIT's online learning portal, Moodle.
Assessments
There are no tests. Learners will be able to simply upload photos or videos of their practical tasks and complete a worksheet by writing about what they are doing over a period of time for the safe work practises module.

To locate hazards, describe safety procedures in the workplace

Maintaining hand tools & service small engines
Chainsaws
Use small machinery for horticulture tasks, under supervision
Plant horticulture crops by hand
Understanding irrigation
Maintain horticultural property structures
Hand prune fruit trees, under supervision
Basic canopy maintenance of trees or vines, under supervision
Plant out by hand, under supervision
Control weeds by physical methods
Growsafe certificate
Right from the outset you and your team leader will be assigned an Invest pastoral support person who will walk you through the start-up and be on-hand at any stage of the program right up to completion.
