NMIT Dragons Den Finals

NMIT Dragons Den Finals

The 2017 NMIT Young Enterprise Scheme Dragons' Den was held on Tuesday 20th June at the Theatre Royal in Nelson.

Students from all over the Top of the South came together to pitch their business ideas to a group of Dragons. Over 30 teams pitched at the Dragons Den Heats on campus at NMIT over 3 nights earlier in June. These pitches were judged by Gilbert Robertson, Julie Varney and Olivia Carson. Standards were high with a number of teams getting rather high scores the dragons had a hard time deciding who got through to the finals.

In the end it was a Marlborough Invasion with both the Marlborough Boys and Girls Combined Team Scholar and Tane’s Team from Westmount Marlborough Campus both getting through to the finals. We also had Caution Streetwear, Kiwi Kaipanui and Ink Cup from Waimea College, Kai Revive and Native from Garin College and TOCAL from Westmount Tasman Campus.

The Night was a chance for our students to pith their businesses in front of local business people and the general public. With MC Gary McCormick and Dragons Virginia Watson (NMIT), Chris Jack (Ex All Black), Al Columbus (Mediaworks), Jax Myers (DNA Design) and Noel Eichbaum (Angel Investor).

The Winning team for 2017 was Scholar from Marlborough Boys and Girls College. Scholar has created a website dedicated to finding scholarships for Secondary Students heading into Tertiary Education. With backing form universities and polytechnics across New Zealand including NMIT, Victoria and Otago Universities.
