Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT) is opening its doors on Saturday 12 September, with a day packed with interactive activities, entertainment, prizes, and opportunities to discover study and career pathways.
Held at NMIT’s Nelson Campus from 10am to 2pm, Open Day is a chance to experience what studying at NMIT is really like, with more than 100 qualifications on offer - from certificates through to master’s degrees.
NMIT Chief Executive Dr Caroline Seelig says Open Day is an opportunity to welcome the community onto NMIT’s friendly campus and discover the breadth of study available.
“People are often surprised by just how much we offer, from short courses and certificates through to bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Our qualifications carry the same recognised academic standing as those offered by universities, and we offer the added benefit of smaller class sizes, strong links with our local industries and high levels of post-graduation employment, all in a beautiful and relaxed local environment. We’d love people to come in, meet our team and experience our welcoming campus for themselves.”
There’s plenty to get excited about!
Visitors can try out the facilities with interactive activities, designed to provide a taste of our hands-on study options. You can choose to design a mini video game, make desserts in a professional training kitchen, explore real aircraft, try beauty treatments, change a car wheel, experience the maritime simulator and get hands-on with engineering and construction activities.
There will also be abseiling, a bouncy castle, ice cream, food trucks, live music and student entertainment, as well as the chance to meet members of the Nelson Giants basketball team.
Open Day isn’t only for those exploring their study options - locals and families are warmly welcome too. With plenty to see, do and enjoy, it’s a fun day out for anyone curious to explore the campus.
For those thinking seriously about their future, Open Day is also a great chance to talk directly with NMIT tutors about programmes, entry requirements, career pathways and what it’s like to study in Te Tauihu.
Proven success
NMIT is currently ranked number one amongst polytechnics in New Zealand for course completion, with the latest Tertiary Education Commission Educational Performance Indicators showing an 89.3% course completion rate. That means choosing NMIT gives learners a strong chance of successfully completing their studies.
And completing a qualification is just the beginning. NMIT graduates have strong employment outcomes, with most graduates employed after study.
There are also some awesome prizes up for grabs on the day, including Giants tickets, a UE Wonderboom speaker and an iPad Air with Apple Pencil.
Two lucky visitors will also win scholarships to study at NMIT, providing an opportunity to take the next step towards a new qualification and career.
Whether you’re a school leaver, considering a career change, looking to upskill or simply curious about what’s possible, NMIT Open Day is a chance to explore your options and see where your next step could take you.
