Ready to begin a career where you genuinely change lives? NMIT’s Bachelor of Nursing (BN) sets you up with the knowledge, practical experience, leadership capability, and confidence to thrive as a registered nurse. Study in Nelson or Marlborough and learn in a programme respected across Aotearoa for its strong academic foundations and extensive hands-on training.

Over three evidence-based years, you’ll move confidently between classroom learning, simulation labs, and real clinical placements. Through these experiences, you will develop the skills and judgment necessary to deliver safe, competent, and compassionate care. Our learners gain exposure to a wide range of healthcare environments, developing practical capability and critical thinking in real-world settings within their community.

As a graduate, you won’t just enter the workforce - you’ll join a profession that directly improves the health and wellbeing of individuals, whānau, and communities. Your internationally recognised qualification and registration will open doors here and around the world.

Nursing isn’t just a job—it’s purpose, it’s people, and it’s the chance to make a real impact every day. It embodies compassion and leadership, placing you at the forefront of health and wellbeing. As a registered nurse, you may work in hospitals, communities, aged care facilities, mental health services, and beyond, making a tangible impact every day.

If you’re driven by purpose, inspired by people, and ready to challenge yourself, the BN programme at NMIT is where your journey begins.

Coming in 2026

NMIT is excited to launch the Otago Bachelor of Nursing programme in 2026 - an innovative curriculum designed to meet the needs of modern healthcare in Aotearoa. We will also be offering the full three-year degree at our Marlborough Campus for the first time.

Why you should study Nursing with NMIT

Ni Yunyi (Tina) explains how the practical training at NMIT is helping students to bridge the gap between study and their future careers.

Learn in specialist facilities

At NMIT, you will gain hands-on clinical experience. This will help you develop a real understanding of nursing. You will learn to deliver skilled care in diverse healthcare settings. With over 1,100 hours in practice, you will develop the ability to meet the physical and mental health needs of individuals and communities.

Meet SAM

Both the Nelson and Marlborough Campuses offer students a PCU unit. At the Nelson Campus PCU unit, we'll introduce you to Sam, a high-tech $35,000 training mannequin that can be programmed to simulate a wide range of health conditions.

Whanau peer groups

You can join the whānau group to build whanaungatanga with graduates and peers from all years. By getting involved, you can actively strengthen your Māori identity, make friends, find role models, and help improve Māori health outcomes.
