If you’ve been thinking about learning te reo Māori, this is a supportive place to start your learning journey.

Designed for beginners, you’ll learn online at your own pace and join a weekly lunchtime online class with an experienced kaiako (teacher) and your workmates.

You’ll build practical language skills you can use at work, at home and in your community, while connecting with te reo Māori and the stories of Te Tauihu.

Flexible learning with real connection

Complete the online learning at times that suit your work and life. Each week, you’ll also join a one-hour live session on Microsoft Teams with your kaiako and other team mates from your business and others.

Choose either the Tuesday or Wednesday lunchtime online class, with the flexibility to move between the two if your schedule changes.

This blend of self-directed and live learning gives you flexibility, while still providing regular opportunities to practise, ask questions and learn alongside others.

Practical learning for everyday use

Learners will build confidence with pronunciation, greetings, introductions, numbers, days of the week, simple instructions and describing where objects are located.

You will also be introduced to karakia, waiata, whakataukī and kīwaha, building their understanding of te reo Māori and tikanga Māori in a practical, beginner-friendly way.

Learning is tailored to reflect the rohe (region) of Te Tauihu, helping you connect with the people, places and stories of our region.
