From flight simulators and welding workshops to beauty treatments and bouldering walls, participants got hands-on with a wide range of study options across the region.
Held across Nelson, Richmond and Marlborough last week, the event featured 27 hands-on workshops showcasing the breadth of programmes available at NMIT. Almost 400 people attended sessions designed to help them explore study options, career pathways and new interests.
Students from Garin College, Marlborough Boys' College, Marlborough Girls' College, Motueka High School, Nayland College, Nelson College, Nelson College for Girls, Queen Charlotte College, Waimea College, Te Kura and local home-schooling communities took part, alongside adults considering upskilling or a career change.
Some attendees travelled considerable distances to join the workshops, including visitors from Auckland and Ashburton.
The workshops offered a snapshot of the many pathways available at NMIT. Participants rolled sushi, tackled climbing challenges, explored coding and AI, experimented with digital sculpting, tried welding and stepped aboard maritime simulators.
From aviation, nursing and aquaculture to beauty therapy, construction, viticulture and social work, learners had the chance to experience a wide range of industries and discover where their interests might lead.
Several workshops filled quickly, prompting the addition of extra sessions in some programme areas to meet demand.
"These sessions are designed to give people a realistic insight into what studying at NMIT is like," says Tertiary Pathways Liaison, Ferne Cribb-Williams.
“Rather than reading about a study area online, participants can ask questions, get hands-on and learn directly from tutors. That experience can be really valuable when considering your next step.”
