Altamash Mulla, originally from India, graduated from NMIT in 2024 with a Master of Applied Management, majoring in logistics and supply chain. With decades of global experience in logistics, Altamash returned to study at NMIT and discovered new opportunities in Nelson that prepared him for his career in Auckland.
“The NMIT staff have been in the industry for such a long time and Nelson being a very small area everybody knows everyone. So they are so well connected with industry people from there,” says Altamash.
“The biggest advantage I had of studying in Nelson was I got in touch with Port Nelson and they were really helpful in understanding how the import and exports of logistics actually takes place, the distribution takes place. So that was a very good eye opener for me as an international student coming in and getting a firsthand experience of how the New Zealand market works.”
Altamash secured his first job offer immediately after graduating and is now a supervisor at Ocean Network Express in the pricing department, where he also manages trade operations.
“I think NMIT was one of the best decisions I could make in terms of having the quality of education and at the same time understanding how you can utilise those skills in the real world,” he says.
NMIT’s Master of Applied Management combines academic learning with practical industry experience, giving students the tools they need to succeed in global business.
