Marlborough, is renowned for its diverse wine varieties, with Sauvignon Blanc being the flagship. This region also produces notable Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, and Riesling.

Sauvignon Blanc is prized for its intense flavour and purity, while Pinot Noir offers vibrant fruit and spice notes. Chardonnay and Pinot Gris showcase the region's cool climate, producing wines with crisp acidity and bright fruit.

Though less common, Marlborough Riesling is known for its balanced acidity and aromatic purity. Other varieties include Rosé, Gewürztraminer, and emerging reds and whites, which also thrive here. The Grüner Veltliner shows promise, Viognier and Syrah have their champions too; everything from Arneis to Tempranillo is being explored as Marlborough continues to push its boundaries.

The NMIT winery and laboratories are situated within the Marlborough Wine Research Centre, established with support from local and national wine and viticulture industries. The centre is a collaboration between NMIT, universities, Bragato Research Institute, Plant and Food Research, the Marlborough District Council and the owner, the Marlborough Research Centre Trust.
