The Master of Professional Accounting is designed to help graduates from any discipline pivot into accounting and finance careers. The programme includes an internship and research project, with no prior accounting study required for entry, just a completed undergraduate degree or equivalent experience. Students will build core competencies in accounting, finance, analytical problem-solving and decision-making, preparing them for diverse roles across a variety of industries. The programme also positions graduates to pursue professional membership with respected accounting bodies such as Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand and CPA Australia.

“This programme equips learners with practical accounting tools and the confidence to step straight into industry roles,” says Michelle Liu, accounting tutor at NMIT. “Our focus is on applied learning and real-world experience so graduates can make an immediate impact.”

The Master of Information Technology offers a flexible, future-focused pathway for IT professionals and aspiring tech leaders. The programme lets students tailor study to their goals with courses in cloud computing, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, data mining and more. The coursework-based programme emphasises real-world application of theory, combining campus-based learning with online support and industry-connected teaching. Part-time options over up to five years accommodate working students.

Trisha Krishnasamy, Curriculum Area Manager at NMIT, says the Master of Information Technology is designed to reflect the dynamic nature of tech work today.

“From AI to cloud architecture, learners will develop both deep technical skills and the ability to solve real-world problems.”

Both master’s programmes have intakes scheduled to begin on 16 March 2026 and again on 20 July 2026 at NMIT’s Nelson campus. With competitive fees and a mix of practical, research and applied learning, the new offerings are part of NMIT’s commitment to expanding postgraduate opportunities in Te Tauihu and supporting regional workforce development.
