Three NMIT accounting students have been recognised for their academic achievement at this year's Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) regional awards event.

The annual event celebrates members of the accounting profession from across the region and this year included awards recognising top-performing accounting students.

NMIT learners were recognised in the student award categories, with awards presented to:

  • Asha White – New Zealand Diploma in Business (Accounting), Nelson
  • Joshua Butcher – Bachelor of Accounting, Nelson
  • Hannah Ching – Bachelor of Accounting, Marlborough

The recipients were selected based on their academic performance, in the New Zealand Diploma in Business (Accounting) or Bachelor of Accounting programmes in 2025.

Asha is currently continuing her studies at NMIT, while Joshua and Hannah graduated in 2025.

The awards highlight the strong academic performance of NMIT accounting learners and the valuable connections between study and the accounting profession, helping graduates build successful careers in business and finance.

Dr Sunil Lakhani, academic staff member in the Applied Business team, attended the awards in support of the recipients and said the recognition reflected the hard work and dedication of all three learners.

"We are incredibly proud to see three of our students recognised for their outstanding achievement at this year's accounting awards," he says.

Our learners consistently demonstrate the skills, professionalism and industry readiness that employers are looking for, which is reflected in the very high rate of graduates securing employment in accounting and business roles. We congratulate all three recipients on this well-deserved achievement."

Joshua said the award was a meaningful way to mark the end of his studies.

“Receiving this award is a real privilege and a great way to reflect on the hard work that went into completing my degree.”

Asha said she was surprised and delighted to receive the award.

"It's an honour to be recognised alongside so many talented people in the accounting profession. I've worked hard throughout my studies, so it's incredibly rewarding to receive this recognition."
