Originally from Yorkshire in the north of England, Lindsay Monaghan brings both international experience and a strong sense of community to her role teaching Nursing at NMIT.
She moved to New Zealand in 2014, planning to stay for just two years, but quickly realised Aotearoa felt like home.
Lindsay’s interest in nursing began early, inspired by her mother, a registered nurse who was deeply passionate about her profession. That early influence shaped a career dedicated to caring for others and striving for clinical excellence.
She completed her nursing training in England and worked for the National Health Service for nine years before relocating to New Zealand. Since then, Lindsay has worked as a Registered Nurse in Auckland and Nelson, specialising in critical care roles including ICU, HDU and CCU. Her extensive frontline experience gives her a depth of clinical knowledge that she brings directly into the classroom.
Before joining NMIT, Lindsay worked as a Clinical Coach, a role that sparked her passion for teaching.
“That’s where I discovered how much I love supporting others to grow in confidence and capability”
In the classroom, Lindsay takes a learner-centred, coaching approach.
“My approach encourages engagement, questions, and practical application of skills.”
