With intakes in July and February, Marlborough learners have opportunities to build practical skills and prepare for future careers. From horticulture, trades, aviation and mechanical engineering to business, apiculture, viticulture and wine, NMIT offers study options shaped by the region’s industries. With programmes at different levels, there are pathways for school leavers, career changers and those ready to upskill while living and working in Marlborough.
NMIT’s Marlborough campus is known for study options closely connected to the industries that make the region unique. In viticulture and winemaking, learners study in the heart of New Zealand’s largest wine-growing region, with access to vineyards, laboratories, wineries and research facilities in Blenheim. Qualifications range from entry-level training through to the Bachelor of Viticulture and Winemaking, leading to careers in vineyard operations, wine production, laboratory analysis and management.
NMIT’s aviation engineering training takes place at Woodbourne RNZAF Base, where students develop aircraft maintenance and engineering skills in an industry with strong demand for qualified workers. Level 3 and 4 Aeronautical Engineering programmes combine workshop learning with opportunities for work placements that can lead directly into employment. The Woodbourne campus also offers Mechanical Engineering Level 3, broadening options for learners interested in hands-on technical careers.
Primary industries are also a major part of the Top of the South economy, and NMIT’s horticulture and apiculture qualifications reflect that demand. Horticulture students develop skills suited to vineyards, orchards, plant nurseries and growing operations, while apiculture programmes support the beekeeping industry, from entry-level training through to specialist queen bee rearing qualifications.
Also available in Marlborough are Foundation Studies Levels 1 and 2, Automotive Engineering and Trades, Te Reo Māori, and Study and Employment Pathways at Levels 3 and 4. Flexible delivery options help learners balance study with work and family commitments. For some programmes, including horticulture, regional transport support is available through a bus service between Marlborough and Richmond.
