They have been working on the post-production visual effects for the new feature film Northspur, opening first in New Zealand then being released in the United States.

Shot entirely throughout Te Tauihu, this was former McLeod’s Daughters actor Marshall Napier’s last film, as he passed away on 14 August 2022 shortly after filming finished.

One of the many projects the Bachelor of Computer Generated Imagery(external link) ākonga (students) got involved in, the premier of Northspur has been long anticipated, as the editing work occurred in 2019.

The then first year learners are now in their final year at NMIT and are pleased to be together to watch the film released on the big screen.

Neil said it was a learning curve for him as well— collaborating studios that work on films for the likes of Netflix, HBO and Amazon Studios. Not the technical, compositing side of the work, but ensuring that film was returned to the editors in the appropriate format and naming conventions was an integral component of the process.

“It was really nice to be working in the international scene with some big names. There was no getting anything wrong, if even a pixel was off, it was sent right back,” he said.

As a result of this opportunity, ākonga got to work directly with high end professionals in this competitive industry.
