General admission

Open Entry if the delegated authority at the campus/site is satisfied that the applicant has the capability to complete the requirements of the programme.   

Additional requirements  

Ākonga must pass a medical fitness assessment for the lifesaving and firefighting components (Maritime Rules Part 34, Medical Fitness). This standard is determined internationally. 

English language requirements 

Applicants for whom English or te reo Māori is not a first language are required to provide proof of English proficiency.  

The required level of proficiency for this programme is IELTS (General) score of 5 with no individual band lower than 5 from a single test taken in the preceding two years, or an equivalent described in NZQA Rules(external link).  

Domestic learners who have completed the majority or all of their education in New Zealand are deemed to have met this requirement. 

All applicants will need to complete and submit a medical form which is available at Supporting documents page(external link).

You will be required to bring a back pack, sleeping bag, wet weather gear and warm clothes on the boat trips.

This programme is taught over 12 consecutive weeks, with several start dates throughout the year.

The Certificate in Superyacht Crewing programme combines theory with a strong grounding in practical skills. Learning takes place mainly as a class group and incorporates online and self-directed study.

There are lots of opportunities for practical, hands-on learning in this programme through learning activities such as scenarios, role plays and practical tasks and by using a range of specialist equipment.

During the programme, you will also get practical training on board a training sailing yacht for 5 days at sea, and at least 4 days of powerboat training on the water.
