NMIT’s beginner te reo Māori programme helps organisations build cultural capability in a meaningful and accessible way. Tailored to reflect the rohe (region) of Te Tauihu, this programme will support practical language skills that can be used in everyday workplace settings.
We encourage learners to give te reo Māori a go, with a programme that combines self-directed online study with weekly live classes led by a skilled kaiako (teacher), so kaimahi (staff) can learn individually or alongside colleagues without needing to travel or take significant time away from work.
No prior knowledge of te reo Māori is required.

Online classes will be held at lunchtime either on Tuesday or Wednesday. Learners will have the workplace flexibility to move between classes when needed. |
Practical learning for everyday use
Learners will build confidence with pronunciation, greetings, introductions, numbers, days of the week, simple instructions and describing where objects are located.
They will also be introduced to karakia, waiata, whakataukī and kīwaha, building their understanding of te reo Māori and tikanga Māori in a practical, beginner-friendly way.

When a team learns together, it helps build a shared foundation of knowledge and confidence. Your team can practise together, support one another and begin using te reo Māori in everyday interactions.
