Viticulture and winemaking

Whether you're out pruning grapes in the on-campus vineyard, tasting wines in our wine sensory room or developing your own perfect blend in the winery, all your learning is hands-on in our tailored facilities.

Viticulture and wine spaces on campus include:

  • two laboratories
  • winery
  • technology transfer theatre
  • wine sensory room for conducting specialised tastings
  • micro-vinification unit
  • a research vineyard planted with new and classic varieties of grapes

The NMIT winery and laboratories are situated within the Wine Research Centre - part of the Marlborough Research Centre (MRC) which has one of its bases at our Marlborough campus. When you study with us, you'll be rubbing shoulders with scientists involved at the cutting edge of research in viticulture and wine.

You'll also spend plenty of time off-campus working in local vineyards and wineries, taking part in field-trips and meeting winemakers, viticulturists and industry specialists.
