Originally from Belarus, Serge began his career in Computer Science through military education.
“My journey in Computer Science started with the Russian Military Institute where I gained expertise in Cyber Security,” he says. “I then completed a Master's degree in computer science at the Military Academy of Belarus.”
Before moving into teaching, Serge held a range of roles in the IT sector, including ICT Specialist, Software Engineer, and Team Leader.
“I have worked in different companies such as a Cyber Security Center and an Antivirus Company,” he says.
This real-world experience directly informs his classroom practice and helps students see how theory translates into professional environments. Serge’s teaching style centres around building understanding and encouraging curiosity.
“I emphasise understanding over memorisation. Any questions are welcomed in the classroom,” he says. He fosters an inclusive learning environment where students are supported to actively engage and apply their learning.
He’s currently preparing research into the use of AI in computer worms, which he describes as the “offensive side of Cyber Security”, and maintains a strong interest in emerging technologies in the field.
For Serge, teaching is a rewarding way to pass on valuable insights from his career.
“It allows me to transform decades of real-world IT experience into the growth of others,” he says. He believes NMIT is an ideal environment for this kind of learning, thanks to its practical, industry-connected focus and supportive community.
