Kia ora, I’m originally from Christchurch and Hamilton, with strong whānau ties across Canterbury and Waikato. I’ve also spent many years living and working in the United States and the United Kingdom, gaining valuable international experience that now shapes the way I support our learners at NMIT.
My career began in hairdressing straight out of secondary school in Hamilton. After completing my apprenticeship and Certificate in Hairdressing, I built a decade-long career in New Zealand before heading overseas to work and travel across the UK, Europe and the US. Those experiences broadened both my professional skills and my understanding of what it feels like to live and work in a new country.
On returning home, I discovered a passion for teaching and mentoring. I spent several years tutoring at the Waikato School of Hairdressing and later at WINTEC’s Centre for Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy before bringing my experience to NMIT in 2020. During that time, I taught across our hairdressing programmes and supported young people through the Top of the South Trades Academy.
“Coming to NMIT is a dream. Nelson is such a beautiful place to live, and the staff and students are lovely. Studying here is awesome because it’s so hands-on and the learning happens organically. If you work hard and don’t give up, you’ll surprise yoursel”
Today, as NMIT’s International learner success advisor, I’m proud to focus fully on supporting our international students. My role is to make sure you feel welcome, supported and confident throughout your journey - academically, personally and culturally. Having lived overseas myself, I understand the excitement and challenges of studying in a new country.
I hold qualifications in hairdressing, adult teaching, advanced haircutting and barbering, and business administration. More importantly, I believe in encouragement, resilience and backing yourself.
You’ll find me in the Library, on the ground floor behind Reception. I look forward to supporting you during your time at NMIT, so don’t hesitate to pop in for a chat.
