Originally from China, Juan Liang’s journey into education began with a passion for learning and a desire to experience the world beyond her home country. She moved to New Zealand to undertake doctoral study, a decision that ultimately shaped both her career and her sense of belonging.

“I enjoyed the multicultural environment in New Zealand and considered it my second home, says Juan.

Before moving into academia, Juan built significant industry experience, working as a senior HR manager. That hands-on leadership background now informs her teaching, helping her connect real-world practice with theory in meaningful ways.

“Such experience is highly relevant to my role at NMIT as it functions as a bridge between managerial practices and theories, which provides a solid foundation to my teaching and research.”

Juan brings this practical perspective into the classroom through a supportive and student-focused approach. She aims to create an environment where everyone feels comfortable contributing and learning from each other.

“My teaching style is encouraging, inclusive, collaborative, and interactive.”

Her research interests sit within organisational behaviour, with a particular focus on organisational identity and communication. She is also actively engaged in the academic community as a member of the International Communication Association, the Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand Communication Association, and the European Group for Organizational Studies.
