Chris Lordan
Captain Chris Lordan teaches the full spectrum of maritime training at NMIT from the STCW Officer of the Watch (OOW) and superyacht crew courses to STCW 2010 safety training.

Chris is well-prepared for the job. His qualifications include Master Foreign Going from the Australian Maritime School in Tasmania and Diploma in Adult teaching equivalence.

Before NMIT, he spent nine years working for Strait Shipping, first as a Chief Officer aboard the cargo vessel ‘Kent’ sailing the coast of New Zealand, and then, as Second Mate for the company’s passenger vessels between Nelson, Wellington and Picton.

The latter role saw him cross the Cook Strait more than 2000 times.

Between 1996 and 2000 Chris was a mate aboard the Spirit of New Zealand and Spirit of Adventure - sailing training ships for young people run by The Spirit of Adventure charitable trust.

“It was about encouraging and supporting young people to achieve their leadership potential, I see my current role at NMIT as a natural progression of that.”
