Early in her career she won an award at the prestigious Absa Atelier Art Competition and painted professionally for 20 years before starting private painting and drawing classes in Nelson 9 years ago.
During this time she has also tutored at NMIT for 4 years. As a teacher Caroline is approachable and encouraging and enjoys keeping her classes lively and engaging.
Working mostly in oils and more recently in charcoal, Jones’s own work is often large scale cityscapes, depicting urban sprawl that is used as a metaphor, challenging the choices we make in our modern lifestyles. New Zealand landscape is another preferred subject matter where careful draughtsmanship is combined with an expressive style.
