Anna Mae Angeles
Born and raised in the Philippines, Anna Mae Angeles has over 20 years' experience in management and leadership roles across the world and at several Fortune 500 companies. In addition to her work as an educator, manager and leader, she has a strong belief in volunteerism. She is the co-founder of an organisation that aims to secure safe and affordable housing for women in the Nelson Tasman region.

In her career, Anna Mae has developed expertise across a range of areas including people management, service delivery, IT service management, leadership development, coaching and mentoring, programme management, global transitions, organisational development, and marketing.

As an educator, Anna Mae is passionate about helping students connect theory with practice.

I’m committed to constantly incorporating reflective practice, being agile, and enabling a sense of curiosity and enjoyment in learning,” Anna Mae says. “My class is experiential. I love using real-world case studies and group activities to make learning engaging.”

Her teaching philosophy is grounded in the belief that education should be dynamic and relevant, preparing students for the realities of today’s global workplace.

“I believe one of the ways I can make a difference in today’s generation is by sharing my industry knowledge and experience so that students gain real, applied skills and confidence.

“I love teaching because it keeps my knowledge current and relevant, and I get to share that journey of discovery with my students. NMIT provides the freedom to design the classroom experience in a way which sets up my students for success when they graduate and join the workforce.”

Outside the classroom, Anna Mae is deeply involved in volunteer and community work. She has served as a corporate social responsibility (CSR) leader in the private sector and continues to contribute through local initiatives. While completing her masters, she volunteered weekly at a local hospice — connections she still maintains today.

Today Anna Mae volunteers for the local Catholic Parish and is a member of the Nelson Soroptimists, an international organisation that seeks to empower women and girls. Anna Mae is proud of the work the Nelson Soroptimists does to support students with the Nelson Soroptimist Education Trust, which offers grants to women from the Top of the South Island studying at tertiary level or an apprenticeship

In 2022 Anna Mae co-founded of Homeshare for Her, a charitable trust helping women find safe and secure housing in the Nelson Tasman region.

“There is still so much more to discover in the non-profit space,” Anna Mae says. “Currently this is the focus of my research.”
