We are excited to welcome our new ākonga (students) to NMIT with a special Mihi Whakatau—a traditional Māori welcome that acknowledges and embraces new members of our learning community.

This is a time for building connections. Our kaimahi (staff) will formally welcome you and introduce you to your new learning environment.

Important Information for Ākonga

  • This event is exclusively for new students.
  • Please switch off your mobile phones during the ceremony.
  • Please do not take photographs or videos during the Mihi Whakatau
  • All bags and food, etc., to be left in the classroom

Morning schedule 

Schedule Information
10.40 Learners to meet and be seated at the Campus Green (outside N-Block).
11.00 Whakatau begins, led by our kaikōrero (speakers).
Waiata Tautoko Staff will sing Purea Nei in support.
Closing Karakia To conclude the formal welcome.
