I recently went back to my home city of Berlin, which holds an emotional place in my heart.
Fifteen years ago I left Germany and immigrated to New Zealand. After living here for some years, I developed a deep longing for certain things from my home country, one of them the many waterways in and around the cities; they provoke a feeling of ‘home’.
The many canals, lakes and rivers of my hometown Berlin inspired a series of photographs capturing the momentary effects of light and colour. By focusing on the textures, layers and shapes as well as colour, I want to draw attention to the water’s visual qualities.
