An introduction to the language and customs of Māori from the Top of the South Island.
Develop the confidence to incorporate Māori language and culture into your everyday life and workplace, and improve your understanding of te reo and tikanga Māori in a fun, weekly one-hour lunchtime class.
This course will use engaging, welcoming and fun hands-on learning to develop your confidence with basic te reo Māori, better your pronunciation, and deepen your understanding of tikanga Māori.
Students will be introduced to cultural concepts and practices, pronunciation, greetings, songs, and forms of language appropriate to the work, community and home environment.
Blended learning is a mix of face-to-face learning with a tutor (20hrs) and self-directed online learning (20hrs).
Classes are held on our Nelson campus, Thursdays 12 - 1 pm until 10 December, with a final class Friday 11 December 12 - 5 pm.
