Course aim

To teach basic screen printing skills, with the opportunity to advance onto more challenging techniques during the course. To encourage students to continue their education in the arts through further study in Arts and Media at NMIT. Works from the course could be used as part of an application folio for such further study.

What will I learn?

  • Create their own designs suitable for screen printing
  • Expose a screen with a buddy in the darkroom
  • Coat and prepare screens in three different techniques
  • Design and cut out a stencil
  • Confidently print using a screen onto paper or fabric
  • Have a good understanding of colour mixing and tinting
  • Print a range of images onto fabric or paper

What do I need to bring?

You will have access to the screen printing workshop, dye room and darkroom, photocopying facilities, black and white only, silk screens, inks and photographic emulsion, A3 sheets of mylar.

You will be given a full materials list to bring to the workshops prior to starting, plus an update is made each week if further materials are required.

Pathway

Screen printing is very accessible, always contemporary, and something that can easily be built into a business or taken further with ongoing academic study.
