Mary Smith is a senior academic staff member on the social sciences team at NMIT.

Mary has been a tutor on this team for the past 10 years. Alongside this role, Mary runs a part-time, private practice. 

Mary is passionate about the education of counsellors, social workers and supervisors from any profession including nursing, teaching, youth work, and the business world.

Professional Associations

Member of NZAC (New Zealand Association of Counsellors) and a Registered Social Worker.

Qualifications

Post Graduate Certificate in Professional Supervision, Masters of Counselling, Bachelor of Arts (Ed), Diploma in Social & Community Work, Diploma in Teaching.

Experience in the Field

30 years’ experience in the social services and teaching industries, including long-term positions as a secondary school Guidance Counsellor; Child Youth and Family (CYF) social worker and board-member of a Charitable Trust Women’s Collective.

Research

Masters of Counselling Research Project on Secondary School Guidance Systems; Current research project on the Counselling Support Service at NMIT.
