John Inglis

John Inglis
John Inglis teaches marketing and management papers on the degree and diploma at the NMIT business school.

He has over 20 years' management experience in business, working across a wide range of sectors including agriculture, horticulture, retail and tourism.

John is a company director with his own business Inglis NZ Ltd, trading as Astrolabe Fashions and is a Board Director of Composite Retail Group, based in Auckland.  Previous roles have included Director of CRT Horticulture and Marketing Manager of Happy Valley Adventures during the inception of the Skywire. John has been a judge of the Commerce Nelson Tasman Business Awards for five years and takes an active part in the region’s business activities. 

A graduate of NMIT, John is degree-qualified in accounting and marketing and has post graduate qualifications in management as well as a Certificate in Adult Teaching. In 2007, John was awarded NMIT’s Cretney Award for Excellence in Teaching. He has been to China numerous times to teach at NMIT’s partner institutes and for the past three years has taken a group of third year degree students to experience China and act as tutorial assistants.

John is an internationally published author in both management and education. His paper on using videoconferencing in the classroom was published in the USA and he has also produced chapters on business ethics and corporate responsibility and business structures and strategies in a New Zealand management textbook Organisations and Management: Theory and Applications.

“I am continually learning.  Being able to pass on knowledge is satisfying however being able to inspire individuals to question, learn and also embark on a continual learning voyage is the real satisfaction,” he says.
