Aquaculture

Aquaculture students get plenty of real-world experience with an average of one field trip per week, three different work placements, and applied research projects.

The programmes have a strong focus on sustainability and marine conservation, recognising the ecological threats of overfishing, pollution, habitat destruction, and climate change on the ocean and freshwater environments.

At NMIT, you will learn how to apply sustainable aquaculture principles that help to conserve the marine environment and address some of the major issues facing our planet.

The majority of New Zealand’s aquaculture produce is grown in Te Tauihu, Top of the South Island, and the region is also the country’s research hub.

Learners will study in state-of-the-art facilities at our Nelson campus and at the Cawthron Institute(external link) - an internationally respected research centre.
