School pathways

Get a kick-start on your career with practical experience on-campus or at a workplace and complete NCEA at school simultaneously.

If you are a student in Year 11 or above, NMIT offers secondary school students the opportunity to explore a variety of vocational pathways by experiencing and studying at the tertiary level.

It's a great way to assist with choosing your school subjects for the following year, deciding what to study in the future or possible first steps towards working.

Check out the information below and chat with your school's Careers and Transition Department to learn more about these opportunities.

NCEA Credits

Before applying, it is important to check the programme information, as tertiary-level credits are not always transferrable to NCEA credits.

There are various ways that secondary students or recent school leavers can pursue tertiary-level education to attain NCEA credits. STAR courses, Trades Academy, and tertiary preparation programmes are some of the options available.

Foundation Pathway programmes are specifically designed to support students who leave school early, those who require NCEA Level 2, or those who need a different approach to learning to boost their confidence in making future-forward decisions.
