Latest news 

All of New Zealand south of the Auckland boundary is now at Alert Level 2.

What this means for NMIT staff and students

Campuses are now fully open. Teaching and learning is in person (where possible). Staff have returned onsite.

There are new restrictions associated with Alert Level 2 and NMIT is following the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) guidelines for operating under this level.

Classrooms & offices

  • All staff and learners are expected to keep at least 1 metre apart or wear a mask.
  • To allow for flow outside classrooms and to maintain physical distancing when entering and leaving spaces, classes are to vacate the room 5-10 minutes early.
  • If a programme activity involves close contact (such as carrying out a beauty treatment, working on a car or aircraft engine) professional guidelines for that specific industry will be followed.
  • Work placements and off-campus activities, such as noho or field trips, can continue. 
  • All overnight noho marae are cancelled or amended to daytime only delivery and food is not to be shared.

 
Students please check with tutors, or Moodle forums, MyNMIT, or Teams regularly to get the latest information about any classes.

After Hours Access

Afterhours access allowed for NMIT staff and learners (for study purposes only). There will be additional security patrols and NMIT ID checking.

Face coverings or masks Face coverings or masks 

  • Learners and staff are expected to bring their own masks every day and have them with them at all times.
  • Wearing a mask or face covering is recommended in all interactions where 1 metre physical distancing cannot be maintained.

Contact tracing and QR code scanning

  • All staff, learners and visitors to our campuses must either scan a QR code with the COVID-19 Tracer App or make a manual record as they move around campus.  Please check that Bluetooth has been enabled on the app.
  • Each NMIT building has its own QR code (except for Richmond and Marlborough Campuses).
  • There will also be a QR code for each business onsite (for instance SANITI, Ake Ake)
  • Registers and sanitisation stations will be set up in all buildings.

At-risk and vulnerable people

Learners who are considered at-risk or a vulnerable person(external link) and not vaccinated may, in consultation with their curriculum area, arrange to learn offsite. However, they may learn onsite if it is safe to do so.

Sport and Recreation Activities

Under Alert Level 2 guidelines, sport and recreation activities are allowed.
The Nelson Campus gym remains open, but students are responsible for ensuring industry best practice is adhered to, including QR code scanning.

The outdoor recreation area (the sports turf) is open and has its own QR code.

Library Services

The library building (M Block) on Nelson Campus remains accessible to NMIT staff and students only.  

Anyone accessing the service will be required to**:

  • Scan in
  • maintain at least 1m physical distance or wear a mask

**This aligns with tertiary education libraries.
