NZ2513 - New Zealand Certificate in Maritime Operations (Level 4)
This programme contributes to graduates obtaining their Maritime New Zealand licence: Mate Fishing Vessel – Limited, or the MNZ license for Watchkeeper Deck 500t Near Coastal.
This programme has two strand options. Mate Fishing Vessel – Limited, or the MNZ licence for Watchkeeper Deck 500t Near Coastal licences enable you to work on a vessel operating within the coastal and offshore limits (currently up to 200 nautical miles off the NZ coast). These strands also include all the short courses you require to gain your licence, such as all the STCW basic and advanced short courses, and Radio certificates.
You will complete this programme in one of the two strands
The Mate Fishing Vessel Limited Strand is suitable for people who are working as a deckhand on a fishing vessel, who want to progress to managing fishing operations on a fishing vessel operating within the coastal and offshore limits (currently up to 200 nautical miles off the NZ coast).
The programme will give you the skills you need to demonstrate safe watchkeeping practices and operation of a range of equipment specific to fishing vessels, in accordance with safe working practices. You will learn to manage fishing operations including planning, catch handling, stowage and discharge of fish on a fishing vessel operating within coastal and offshore limits under the Maritime New Zealand Seafarer Certification and Operational Limits Framework.
If you already hold the Maritime New Zealand Advanced Deckhand – Fishing licence and/or have been working as a deckhand on a fishing vessel then this programme is for you. If you do not hold the MNZ Advanced Deckhand – Fishing licence, then you will need to complete a Training Record Book whilst you are at sea, prior to attending the programme. Please contact us and we will provide you with this Training Record Book free of charge.
The Watchkeeper Deck 500t Near Coast Strand is for people working on commercial vessels (non-fishing) and who want to progress to being a watchkeeper on near-coastal vessels (non-fishing) operating within the coastal and offshore limits (currently up to 200 nautical miles off the NZ coast).
The programme will give you the skills you need to demonstrate safe watchkeeping practices on a commercial vessel during navigation, deck cargo planning, loading and discharging operations and emergency situations whilst maintaining vessel safety and compliance.
If you have some skills or experience gained from working on commercial vessels as a deckhand, then this programme is for you.
These strands also include all the short courses you require to gain your licence, such as all the STCW basic and advanced short courses, and Radio certificates. If you already hold any of these short courses, you do not need to do them again – we will credit them towards your programme.
