If you want to work in the Aquaculture industry, and have no previous experience this is the programme for you.

You will become familiar with the key aspects of the aquaculture industry. You learn how to build functioning systems to house aquatic animals and then see them develop through key stages of their life cycle.

The monitoring and recording of water quality that you carry out will be key to support these animals through their growth. You will also be able to identify workplace hazards and demonstrate compliance with Health and Safety practices in a hatchery, fish or shellfish operation.

This programme uses a blended learning model, including practical hands on classes, field trips and time spent on-site with industry. You will spend around 30 hours on placement which gives you first-hand experience in a supportive learning environment.

Over a one year period, you will complete two qualifications:

  • New Zealand Certificate in Aquaculture (Level 3)
  • New Zealand Certificate in Aquaculture (Level 4)

This programme was developed in consultation with industry and has been designed to specifically meet their needs developing well rounded, practical, ‘hands on’ individuals who can transition straight into work. The programme is also designed to enable you to pursue further study in this field.
