Andrew Chalmers, NMIT Student Engineers New Zealand (SENZ) president, said, Dr Smith gave an impassioned talk about the need for skilled diploma students. He reinforced the practicality of this qualification. He made sure to emphasise the need for Engineers to be effective communicators and gave great examples of how much easier it is to communicate if you can break down problems and solutions into uncomplicated layman’s terms.
“While it was a short visit it was great to hear from not only a Government Minister, that our chosen field was important and relevant, but also a fully-fledged engineer about challenges and solutions we could face in our careers,” he says.
