We warmly invite all students to attend the Nelson Mihi Whakatau to welcome you to NMIT and to celebrate the start of your study.

The Mihi Whakatau is a Māori welcoming ceremony involving mihimihi (speeches) and waiata (singing). 

Easily distinguishable staff members will be there to guide and support students to the seated area for manuhiri located in the Kowhai Lounge in the Student Centre. Please be seated in the manuhiri area by 9:50am ready for a 10:00am start so that everyone is ready for enjoy this celebration of the semester start. 

  • File into the seats in the designated area.
  • As a courtesy, please also turn off all electronic devices.  

Kai and refreshments will be provided after the Mihi Whakatau.
