French language evening classes now available at NMIT

A new partnership between Alliance Française Nelson-Tasman and NMIT has led to the establishment of French language evening classes.

French language evening classes are now available at Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT) thanks to a new partnership between NMIT and Alliance Française Nelson-Tasman.

The Alliance Française Nelson-Tasman is part of a worldwide network dedicated to encouraging interest in the French language, culture and literature.

Alliance Française Nelson-Tasman President Lisa Caron said French language classes were previously available through Nayland College's community education programme. However when those classes were cut, the group was concerned that French language classes would no longer be available in the region.

"We really believe in the value of community education and we thought it would be a huge loss for the community. Language learning is also a big part of what we do. We decided to step in and see if we could find a way to keep them going. We're thrilled to say we've found a new venue at NMIT and we are very grateful for their support", she said.

NMIT Chief Executive Tony Gray said the institute was pleased to be able to support adult community education and provide opportunities for the wider community to access NMIT's outstanding facilities.

The French language classes taught by a native French speaker will run on Wednesday evenings at NMIT's S Block.
