Q:Can I use sports equipment?
A:
Yes, there is equipment (footballs, rugby balls, volleyball, cricket sets, Frisbees, tennis, baseball) for students to use at anytime. Items can be borrowed from the Student Support Helpdesk.
Q:How can I catch up on assignments when I’ve fallen behind?
A:
Speak to your tutor about it in the first instance, following that you can ask for help at the Student Support Helpdesk in the Student Centre or from the Library Learning Centre in M Block.
Q:How can I fund my tertiary education?
A:
Studylink is here on campus full-time over the summer months. There is a free phone direct to central Studylink as well. Scholarship can be discussed with Customer Services in A Block or the Kaitakawaenga in N Block. The Student Helpdesk in N Block will be able to link you with a Student Advisor who can discuss funding or income issues and help you to look at your options.
Q:How do I find a local sports club or community agency?
A:
The Student Support Helpdesk has a directory available that has contact details of sporting and community organisations in the Nelson/Tasman region.
Q:What activities happen on campus?
A:
The student recreation area in the Student Centre has a pool table, table tennis and a foosball table for student use. The Student Support Helpdesk has a range of sports equipment for student use. Check the reception notice board in the Student Centre for local recreation information, classes and events.
Q:What if I can’t cope?
A:
You can go to the Student Support Helpdesk and see a Student Advisor or you can self-refer to the free counselling service provided at all NMIT students.
Q:What is there to do in Nelson?
A:
Our student helpdesk has a list of activities with contacts and prices, from soccer, volleyball, rugby, waka ama, martial arts, tramping and other outdoor fun. There is a range of recreation activities advertised in the Student Centre.
Q:What kind of accommodation is there in Nelson/Richmond Marlborough
A:
Nikau apartments are the onsite campus apartments. There are also opportunities for International students in Homestay accommodation and flats, contact the International Coordinator in Student Support for further information. In Marlborough, see the Student Advisor. Please

Q:What will I do after this course finishes?
A:
Your tutors may be able to assist you and we can refer you to the Careers Advisory Service. There are options to discuss things with NMIT staff and you can access this via the Student Support Helpdesk and the Information and Enrolment Centre, which is in A Block.
Q:Where can I find accessible, affordable quality childcare?
A:
A: Nelson campus: As an NMIT student you can put your name down early on the Campus Corner waiting list, which is conveniently situated alongside the campus.
