Career Counselling

Career counselling is about helping people find meaning and purpose in their lives and giving them the confidence and skills to thrive in the society of today and tomorrow.  

What does Career Counselling Provide?

  • Skills Awareness: Understand your skills, values, interests and achievements.
  • Career Pathways: Find out about possible job options after study.
  • Gather information: Find out more about job details, further study and the local and national labour market.
  • Employment Coaching: Gain skills for the successful handling of interviews, job research, cover letters and application forms.  

Where Can I Get Career Counselling?

NMIT has two options for those wanting advice on their careers.

  • Current students: a one to one consultation with Career Services.
  • Potential students: a one to one consultation with our in-house career counsellor.    

Career Services

Career Services is New Zealand’s leading provider of career education and planning programmes. They have a wealth of expertise and experience in working with people who are in work, out of work or currently training. Career Services is aimed at people who want to plan their career path or make changes to their current situation.  

The Career Services staff are experienced career consultants, trained to assist you with making decisions about further training, education or employment issues.  

Career Services has a contract with NMIT to provide one to one consultation in a one hour session for our fulltime students. This is a free, one-off service. Students need to contact Customer Relations to get a referral.

NMIT’s In-house Career Counsellor

If you are a potential student and would like to look out what career opportunities are available once you have finished studying then NMIT has an in house career counsellor to assist you find the course that is right for you.

Gain help with:

  • choosing between similar seeming courses
  • finding the right course to put you on track for you future career
  • career path ideas taken from your areas of interest
