STUDENT SUPPORT TEAM LEADER Ph 035469175 Ext 695 Hours: Monday - Friday, 8.30am - 4.30pm Studying towards your qualification at NMIT can be a rewarding and enjoyable experience - but sometimes the pressures of being a student can seem overwhelming. The Student Support Team are a group of friendly supportive professionals who are here to help you, and make sure that your time as a student at NMIT is a great success! The team work closely with other NMIT support service providers, local community and government agencies, to find the solution to best suit your needs.
STUDENT ADVISOR HELPDESK Ph: 03 546 9175 Ext 655 Email: studentsupporthelp@nmit.ac.nz Hours: Monday - Friday 8.30am - 4.30pm The Helpdesk in the Student Centre is there to assist students and to find solutions to their inquiries, problems or issues. At the Helpdesk you can make appointments with Support Team members, gain information about local services, activities and recreation. There is also a supply of sports equipment that can be borrowed by students for their free time.
STUDENT ADVISOR & ACCESSIBILITY Ph: 03 546 9175 Ext 723 Hours: Monday - Friday 10.00am - 2.30pm The Student Advisor is here to listen and help you to find answers to problems that are causing you stress or working against your success as a student at NMIT. The Advisor can also provide assistance or equipment solutions to students with a diagnosed disability or those who have access issues that might prevent them reaching their full potential at NMIT. If you are stressed out about assignments or worried about external issues that are affecting your studies; please do not hesitate in making contact to access assistance.
STUDENT ADVISOR INTERNATIONAL Ph: 03 546 9175 Ext 816 and 876 Hours: Monday - Friday 8.30am - 4.30pm As part of the Student Support Team the Student Advisors International will be responsible for ensuring accommodation and pastoral care needs of international students enrolled with NMIT are met. The Student Advisors International have a focus on recruiting and liaising with Homestay families to provide the best accommodation placements available for our international students. This includes welcoming them and arranging their orientation; ensuring students are assisted with the adjustment to living in New Zealand; and, given guidance on aspects of safety and well being that will enable them to be successful and get the most out of their time at NMIT and stay in New Zealand.
KAITAKAWAENGA/MAORI LIAISON Ph: 03 546 9175 Ext 828 Hours: Monday - Friday 8.30am - 4.30pm The Kaitakawaenga supports all Maori students to achieve their study goals. Assisting with scholarships and refferals to all appropriate services and facilities to help students achieve their goals. The Kaitakawaenga can access kaupapa Maori services outside of NMIT; cultural and treaty information; offer career guidance and referral to appropriate support in the wider community. The Kaitakawaenga also works as a liason for NMIT in the community and the regions high schools.
PACIFIC ISLAND LIAISON Ph: 03 546 9175 Ext 865 Hours: Monday and Friday 9.00am - 12.00pm The Pacific Island Liaison provides support, advice and encouragement wherever possible for all Pacific Island students at NMIT. This is performed through ongoing contact with students face-to-face and by telephone. The Pacific Island Liaison is available on Monday and Friday mornings.
HEALTH NURSE Ph: 03 546 9175 Ext 804 Hours: Monday - Friday 8.30am - 1.00pm The Health Clinic is in the Student Centre and is accessed via the Student Support Helpdesk. The nurse is available Monday to Friday 8.30am - 1.00pm and caters for minor health needs. The nurse also provides students and staff health checks, as well as the promotion of Quitline, healthy living and wellness.
