Welcome to the School of Technology and Primary Industries. Our school has a strong focus on hands-on careers and providing training for some of the region's key industries including viticulture, conservation and trades.

This school offers training in carpentry and automotive engineering for both entry level applicants and those already in the industry. We also provide training for a number of land-based industries including viticulture and the only DOC approved Trainee Ranger programme in New Zealand.

New Course for 2010

The Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT) Diploma in Aquaculture (Fish Farming and Fishery Management) has been designed to meet the increasing demands of the aquaculture and fresh water fishery management industries for employees that are well educated in practical and theoretical aquaculture, as well as having some business management skills. These industries and support services require technologists and managers with applied scientific knowledge, managerial skills and ability for independent thought and analysis. This programme involves a combination of study and work-based training structured to include the essential skills needed for working in aquaculture.

Trades

Learn a trade and you'll have a marketable skill for life!

NMIT offers a range of trade programmes including carpentry, basic and advanced mechanical engineering and automotive engineering. We work closely with industry to ensure we provide graduates with the knowledge and skills required to take up apprenticeships or begin entry-level employment.

Places are keenly sought on these programmes which offer highly specialised tuition and well-recognised qualifications.

Our study options include: viticulture and conservation. In partnership with Industry Training Organisations, NMIT also offers you the opportunity to gain a National Certificate in horticulture while you are in employment. NMIT specialises in land-based courses that reflect the diversity of the Nelson-Tasman region.
