Application Portfolio Requirements

Diploma in Arts and Media

All applicants must submit a portfolio of work showing ability in arts and/or media.

Portfolios should either be:

  • Arts and/or media portfolio at Level 3 or above or equivalent personal portfolio

The portfolio may include a selection of the following:

  • Sketchbooks/workbooks showing the development of ideas;
  • Arts / media works, including both process works and finished works;
  • Photographs / slides or recordings relevant to the field in which the applicant wishes to study;
  • Finished works in the medium in which the applicant wishes to study.

(Or photographic records of any of the above)

Portfolios will be examined for evidence of the applicants potential to further develop the following attributes:

  • Technical skills in major studio speciality areas;
  • Design processes and concept development.
Diploma in Arts and Media (Contemporary Music)

Contemporary Music applicants are required to provide evidence of a reasonable level of proficiency on their principal instrument, demonstrated by either:

  • An audition, OR
  • A DVD or video recording.

Auditions or DVDs/video recordings must include the following:

  • A short solo piece on your principal instrument of 1-2 minutes duration (vocalists may be accompanied);
  • A short solo piece on your principal instrument in a contrasting style of 1-2 minutes duration;
  • Sing/play a major and minor scale starting on any note (all applicants);
  • Talk for 60 seconds about your musical experience and your plans for the future.

Drum applicants must demonstrate the following:

  • 3 different drum rudiments of 2 bars each;
  • Count in and play a 4-bar moderate rock groove;
  • Count in and play a contrasting 8-bar drum groove (any style) and include a 2-bar solo at bars 5 and 6;
  • Talk for 60 seconds about your musical experience and your plans for the future.

Applicants unable to access DVD/video gear may request to submit an audio cassette.

Bachelor of Arts and Media

All applicants must submit a portfolio of work showing ability in arts and/or media.
