Apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) along with your application for the programme of your choice. Programme regulations stipulate the maximum number of credits that can be awarded through RPL. You will need to talk to the Programme Leader about your RPL application before you submit it, and get advice about the best level at which to apply for entry into the programme.
You could either apply for the BA&M at level 5 or, if you do not meet the entry requirements or feel you need more experience first, apply for the DA&M at level 4, and once that is completed, apply for the degree programme.
It depends initially on what level you want to study.
The diploma starts at level 4 and goes to level 6, whereas the degree starts at level 5 and goes to level 7. If you are aiming for the highest academic level, try the degree.
If you are looking for a less academic programme that does not go to such an advanced level, try the diploma.
If you are not sure whether you can manage the academic work, but want to give it a go, then you could enrol in the degree at level 5. There is still an easy transition across to the diploma on completion of the first year’s study if you decide to do that. All the courses at level 5 and most courses at level 6 are common to both the degree and the diploma.
If you want something that has more graphic design and computing, the Diploma in Graphics and Multimedia may also be a good choice, although the D&AM and B&AM also allow students to specialise in digital studio work at the higher levels and the BA&M includes electives options that could include courses from the Bachelor of Information Technology or the Bachelor of Commerce.
If you leave school after Year 12, you would need to apply for the Diploma (Level 4). You could then apply for the first year of the degree (Level 5) after successful completion of the Diploma in Arts and Media (Year 1).
If you are part way through year 13 and want to apply for the degree, you are best to stay at school and complete Year 13 so that you will be eligible apply for the Half a Degree for Free scholarship. However if you do decide to leave early, you could apply for some studio courses in July to complete your portfolio and apply for the degree the following year.
You can still apply to enter the Diploma at Level 4.
