Contemporary Music Programme

Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology has signed a partnership agreement with Nelson School of Music which sees NMIT providing music programmes.

The Nelson School of Music's Contemporary Music Performance Course is now being delivered as part of the new Certificate in Arts and Media (Contemporary Music). A new Diploma in Arts and Media (Contemporary Music) has also started in 2009.

These qualifications are both embedded within NMIT's Diploma in Arts and Media programme.

The Certificate in Arts and Media (Contemporary Music) enables students to pursue their skills in contemporary music, both individually and in a band, within a programme that broadens their arts and media education.

It teaches a broad set of skills focusing on the music industry
including performance, audio/video engineering and multimedia development.

Because of the integration into the Arts and Media school at NMIT, students will also be rubbing shoulders with future web designers, sculptors and creative writers. And they will have pathways to further contemporary music diplomas and degrees.

NMIT has control over the programmes, however the contemporary music sections of the programme are run at the School of Music. The School of Music also plays a key advisory role for the programmes.

The Diploma in Arts and Media (Contemporary Music) includes industry-based projects, such as students composing and recording their own music, creating podcasts and vodcasts for their own website, and producing MTV-style rock videos.
