Entry Requirements

International students can study almost all our programmes. If you wish to enrol on a degree programme but do not have the necessary qualifications, we have a flexible entry system that allows you to enter at various levels and progress toward the qualification you wish to gain.

Entry Dates
Most programmes begin in February but some have an intake in July as well. Applications need to be received where possible at least two months before the programme starts. However, if there are vacancies, late applications will be accepted.

There are two main requirements for academic programmes:
1. English Language Requirements
2. Academic Admission requirements

1. English language requirements for academic programmes
The level of English required depends on the programme you want to study. See the English language requirements for academic programmes

What if I do not meet these requirements?
Our English Language School was established to help international students meet the standard of English requirements for our academic programmes. The Centre offers a range of English programmes for international students from elementary to advanced levels, from four to forty weeks. The length of programme you study can be arranged to suit your individual requirements.

If you already know some English, but don't have a TOEFL or IELTS score, it doesn't matter. You can be examined here to see if you meet the required standard.

2. Academic Admission requirements
Degree programmes require the equivalent of New Zealand Bursary but many other programmes require the equivalent of New Zealand Sixth Form Certificate and occasionally New Zealand School Certificate. Use the Equivalent Qualifications for Academic Programmes page as a guide only. Individual cases are always considered.

Cross Credits
These are available if the following information is provided by the student and verified by a notary public:

  • Transcript of exam results
  • Details of curriculum
  • Number of hours studied per subject
  • Type and number of assessments

Staircasing
Our staircasing plan enables students to access programmes appropriate to their needs and allows them to pursue their studies as far as they wish in a flexible manner. Refer to the staircasing page for more detail.
