Certificate in Contemporary New Zealand Nursing Practice

> Course Information

NMIT’s CAP programme prepares nurses who are qualified overseas to work in New Zealand by providing them with the knowledge and skills of current professional nursing practice. Successful applicants will also learn how to further develop nursing assessment and decision making skills and the practical work placement will provide registered nurses with clinical experience to meet the competencies for the Registered Nurse Scope of Practice.

The structure of CAP consists of 24 weeks of CAP preparatory (International students only) and 12 weeks of the Certificate in Contemporary New Zealand Nursing Practice.

The compulsory CAP Preparatory programme provides students with specific language skills training as well as a focus on such topics as workplace communication for patient care, cultural safety, job market skills, maintaining client documentation and self reflection.

The courses on the CAP programme include a mix of theory and clinical practice, and address the areas of competencies for practice as set down by the Nursing Council of New Zealand. Assessments are competency-based, where students are required to meet all stated criteria in order to pass each assessment. All courses are compulsory.
