Certificate in Superyacht Crewing


You’ll gain knowledge and employment-related attributes necessary to succeed as a crew member on board a superyacht (sail or motor yacht), including the skills required to secure employment.

Programme structure

  •  Nelson campus
  • 12 weeks, full time
  • Starts June and September 

Content

A mix of theory and hands on experience are used in this programme. You'll extinguish fires, practice liferaft drills at sea, operate a radar, take a motorboat trip, participate in five days' sailing both at night and during the day, learn about hosting and stewardship along with helicopter and firearms safety and more.

>Entry Requirements

All applicants:

  • At least 10 credits at NCEA Level 1 showing basic numeracy skills or equivalent
  • At least 10 credits at NCEA Level 1 showing basic literacy skills or equivalent
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Be physically capable of undertaking crew duties aboard a vessel. This requires a General Practitioners medical certificate from a General Practitioner (GP). This certificate must be submitted at the interview
  • Demonstrate motivation to work in the superyacht or maritime tourism industry.

Applicants whose first language is not English are required to demonstrate an IELTS academic score of 6; OR equivalent.

> What's Next


This qualification can lead directly into employment as a crew member on board a superyacht, either motor or sailing vessels. Graduates can further their studies with a variety of maritime courses.
