Certificate in Vineyard Practice


Originally established in response to industry demand for skilled vineyard workers, this programme covers all aspects of grape growing including pruning, canopy management, pest and disease control and more! You’ll gain the practical skills required to work in vineyards of New Zealand or further afield. Theory is studied as a distance learning package but includes practical work components completed in a vineyard.

Programme structure:
  • Four intakes per year - starting first Monday of each semester.
  • All students receive theory manuals and assessment books which are completed and returned to NMIT for marking. Practical vineyard work is assessed in the field by trained workplace assessors. NMIT staff act as mentors to students and assessors alike.

Entry Requirements

All applicants:

  • No minimum academic requirements

Applicants will be selected based on the following:

  • A demonstrated interest in working in the viticulture
  • Access to a vineyard
  • The evidence of ability to apply oneself to work or study.

Applicants whose first language is not English are required to demonstrate an IELTS academic score of 5.0 OR equivalent.

Prior learning or work experience may be credited to this programme of study.

> What's Next


Graduates can gain employment as skilled vineyard workers, set up their own vineyards or undertake further training such as the NMIT Diploma in Viticulture and Wine Production (Level 5), OR the Bachelor of Viticulture and Oenology offered by Lincoln University on the NMIT Marlborough campus.

This programme of study is not suitable for International students.
